We saw them last week at the Saturday market in Neerpelt, but this weekend they were on stage at CC Palethe: Youth Choir Timbre. The stage was transformed into perhaps the most beautiful monastery in Europe, for the performance 'Nobody has it better than a nun'.
The story follows Deloris van Cartier, a diva who unexpectedly has to flee the mafia and ends up in a convent. Initially, it seems like a disaster for both her and the strict Mother Superior, but music and new friendships soon bring warmth and humor to the convent walls. Until a class accidentally reveals their whereabouts on social media, and suddenly not only Deloris and her friend Tina, but all the nuns as well, are in danger.
A mix of comedy, suspense, and captivating music made for an evening and afternoon full of pace and fun at Palethe. (Photos: Albert Loos) More photos

We're spoiled in Pelt with a whole host of choirs, and Jeugdkoor Timbre is perhaps one of the youngest. We saw them perform a few years ago among the shelves at Delhaize, and this year they performed for the jury at the European Youth Music Festival. Now that we've learned they'll be bringing a new musical to the Dommelhof in a few weeks, we wanted to know more about Jeugdkoor Timbre, so we met up with Nienke Winters and Joni Jaeken , the driving forces behind Timbre. Nienke is currently studying psychology in Leuven, but also sings with De Piccolo's and the Leuven University Choir. Joni also has a Piccolo background and still sings with Showkoor Rise Up, and she works in HR.

The Happening surprised us once again with an evening full of musical highlights and magical moments! Over the years, the Saturday evening show has grown into a true spectacle with a high level of showmanship. From the cuddly boys' choir from the Czech Republic to the Choeur Ban'afrika from Kinshasa, each act brought its own unique flair to the table.
With performances by groups from Spain, Ecuador, Poland, and Portugal, it was an evening full of variety. The audience enjoyed not only the songs sung by the groups in their native languages, but also classics like "Never Enough" (The Greatest Showman) and "Bohemian Rhapsody."
The biggest surprise came from Youth Choir Timbre (photos): they delivered a fantastic rendition of "Wannabe." We predict we'll see these ladies from Pelt on stage many more times! Also a special mention to Simon Schrooten and Dorus Uijt De Willigen (Blackboard Duo), who effortlessly captivated the audience with their twosome.
As a highlight, all the ensembles and orchestras from the Happening performed Jim Papoulis's "Give Us Hope." The Happening continues to bring people together from all over the world and lets them enjoy the beauty of making music. More photos

Pelt youth choir Timbre takes part in a competition for the first time and immediately wins gold
17.07.2023 - hbvl.be
Pelt - The Pelt Youth Choir Timbre made waves in Rome last week. The 23 girls, aged 11 to 18, won top prize at an international choir competition, where they were the only ones to hold Belgian honors high.
Conductor Nienke Winters and choreographer Joni Jaeken are incredibly proud. "We normally perform a musical every year, but for our fifth anniversary, we wanted something special," says Joni. So, Timbre participated in a competition for the first time, and right away, in Rome. "The choral festival Musica Eterna Roma is organized by Meeting Musica. We discovered it while searching online. It seemed like a fun challenge."
On Sunday, after a five-day adventure, the girls surprisingly brought home a gold diploma to Belgium. And that wasn't their only prize. "We also got to perform three times during our stay in Rome," says Joni. "First, at a fraternization concert where we met other choirs, which was really fun. And then, of course, there was our jury concert where we won in the similar-voiced youth choirs category. As a nice bonus, we were also selected among the top five choirs to perform again. For this, we had to rehearse two additional a cappella pieces. We couldn't be more thrilled with our competition debut."

Anyone strolling through the market on Saturday morning might have been a bit surprised. From Kerkstraat, no less than 20 nuns walked in, followed by six chaplains in their wake—or rather, in their habits. The sisters proved to be capable of more than just hymns: during their hymn, a large crowd of curious market-goers gathered. Meanwhile, the chaplains weren't busy with any shopping, but were cheerfully handing out flyers. The unexpected quick visit turned out to be a promotional stunt for the musical by Jeugdkoor Timbre , which will be performed next weekend at CC Palethe. The title alone is enough to make you smile: " It's good to be a nun ." More photos

Shaken on Rydell Rock
September 15, 2024 - internetgazet.be
We recently had an extensive conversation with Nienke Winters and Joni Jaeken, the driving forces behind Youth Choir Timbre . At the end of August, they were still in full preparation for their musical, which they performed twice last weekend. "Shaken on the Rydell Rock" was the name of their latest musical, based on the musical " Grease ." Thirty-eight talented boys and girls were fully prepared after four months of intensive rehearsals. Anyone who, after seeing their brilliant performance(s) or not, wants to join us next time: on Saturdays, September 21st and 28th (from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.), there will be rehearsals at the Hubertustheater. At today's EMJ awards ceremony, Showkoor Rise Up, Children's Choir De Piccolo's, and Youth Choir Timbre all took home first prize. This is remarkable, as all Pelt choirs won first prize. Yesterday, Youth Choir De Piccolo's and Kiliana also received the same honor. Just like yesterday, three groups also received the highest award, a summa cum laude: the New Amsterdam Children's Choir, Youth Choir Waelrant (Borgerhout), and the Coro Juvenil Schola Cantorum from Guayaquil, Ecuador. With 12 cum laudes, the second day of the festival was also a success! More photos

Our Best Summer

We can easily believe that this past summer was also the best for Youth Choir Timbre, as they won gold at a festival in Rome in July. But that didn't stop them from continuing to work hard on a new musical, called "Our best summer, memories that remain." And although Albert Loos doesn't really handle a hot summer, he still managed to capture this beautiful photo series. Of two wonderful performances!

Youth choir from Neerpelt sings Christmas carols in a shop to raise money for tickets to an international singing competition
24.12.2022 - vrt.be
During the busy Christmas shopping season, the local youth choir of Neerpelt sang Christmas carols at the local Delhaize supermarket. The choir was raising money for tickets to an international choir competition in Italy, where they also plan to celebrate their fifth anniversary.
There was no radio at the Delhaize in Neerpelt today, but there was a live youth choir. The young people of the Timbre Youth Choir spent an entire morning singing one Christmas hit after another to make the busy Christmas shopping experience a little more enjoyable. But they also wanted to raise some money.
The young people want to use the money to buy some plane tickets to Italy, where they'll be participating in an international choir competition for the first time this summer. "We normally organize a camp in Italy every summer with the entire choir," says choir director Nienke Winters. "This year marks our fifth anniversary, and we'd like to celebrate with a camp abroad and participation in an international competition. But to make that trip a reality, we need to raise some money, and of course, we'll do that through singing."
The idea to sing at the Delhaize in Neerpelt came from choir accompanist Joni Jaeken. "My mom works here, and I used to work there as a student worker. My mom and I suddenly came up with the idea of singing Christmas carols in the store. It's a win-win situation. Customers can enjoy lovely, live Christmas music while shopping, and we can raise some money for our trip by singing, of course, but also by selling chocolate milk made from the store's leftover Sinterklaas chocolate."
"The young people were all very enthusiastic about singing Christmas carols," Nienke adds. "Although some were a little harder to get out of bed than others."

Youth choir Timbre presents first musical for a full Dommelhof
05.10.2021
Last weekend, the Dommelhof theater was packed for the special musical performance "Wij blijft voortstaan" (We will continue to exist). It was a production by the Youth Choir Timbre, led by Joni Jaeken and Nienke Winters. "We started in 2018 as a school choir, and today we have about 30 enthusiastic members spread across the various WICO campuses," say the initiators, two former students of WICO Sint-Hubertus. Every year, the group works towards a full-fledged performance. "The message of this piece is that we will keep going, even though we no longer attend WICO ourselves and, as an organization, are no longer truly affiliated with a single school." (gvb)
